Known Limitations

This is an honest list of what Asguard cannot do. We think it is better to tell you clearly upfront than to let you discover these things by surprise.

No read receipts

Telegram does not provide read receipts for bots. Asguard cannot confirm whether a message was seen or opened — only whether your loved one replied.

The 60-minute missed-dose escalation to you is the safety net for medication reminders.

No emergency services

Asguard cannot call 999, contact an ambulance, or reach emergency services on your loved one's behalf.

If the companion notices language that may signal distress, it responds with warmth, signposts support by giving the relevant helpline number, and immediately sends an alert to you. In a genuine emergency, always call 999 directly.

Messages stored on Telegram's servers

Telegram bot messages are not end-to-end encrypted — they are stored on Telegram's servers. This is a known limitation of how Telegram bots work. It is acceptable for the beta, and we plan to address it through a native app in a future version.

Asguard stores your loved one's conversation data securely on our own servers, encrypted at rest.

One Telegram account, one person

Each Telegram account can only be linked to one Asguard subject. If two people share a phone (for example, a couple sharing one device), only one of them can use Asguard on that device at a time.

If this is a problem for you, please let us know — it is a known design constraint we are working to solve.

Medication reminders depend on Telegram notifications

If your loved one's phone is on silent, has Do Not Disturb enabled, or has Telegram notifications switched off, they may not see reminders when they arrive.

We recommend checking notification settings when you first set up Asguard.

AI responses are good, but not infallible

The companion is powered by AI and is very capable, but it occasionally gets things slightly wrong — a clumsy phrase, a misheard name, an off-tone response. We monitor this closely and improve it continuously.

If you see a response that concerns you, please email hello@asguard.app.

No WhatsApp, no voice, no native app yet

Asguard currently works through Telegram and the web dashboard. WhatsApp, voice input, and a native mobile app are on the roadmap but not yet available.

US users not yet supported

Asguard is currently available in the United Kingdom only. Users in the United States will be placed on a waitlist.

If a limitation here is a significant problem for your situation, please tell us at hello@asguard.app. We use this feedback to decide what to prioritise.
