Thank you for being part of Asguard's early journey. This guide covers everything you need to know about setting up and using Asguard with your loved one.
What Asguard Is
Asguard is a daily AI companion delivered through Telegram — the free messaging app. It sends medication reminders, has warm conversations, asks questions that preserve life stories, and it notices and summarises how your loved one seems.
When something seems off — a missed dose, a sign of distress, or a long period of silence — Asguard sends you a gentle alert so you can check in.
Think of it as a kind, patient daily presence that keeps your family more connected, without putting pressure on anyone.
What Asguard Is Not
It is important to be clear about this:
- Not a medical device. Asguard is a companion and reminder service. It does not diagnose anything and it does not give medical advice. For what it does with health readings, see Health readings and range alerts below. Always consult a GP or healthcare professional for medical concerns.
- Not an emergency service. If your loved one is in danger, call 999. Asguard notices language that may signal distress, signposts support, and alerts you immediately, but it cannot summon help on its own.
- Not a replacement for human contact. Asguard works best alongside regular calls, visits, and care — not instead of them.
- Not able to confirm messages were read. Telegram does not provide read receipts for bots. If your loved one does not respond to a medication reminder, you will receive an alert after 60 minutes.
Health readings and range alerts
Asguard can note down health readings, such as blood pressure or blood sugar, that the person you care for chooses to share in conversation. These are readings they have taken or been given elsewhere and mention to their companion. Asguard does not take the reading itself, and it does not decide whether a reading is normal, high, low, or a cause for concern.
You can set a range you would like to be told about. This is a range you choose, not one Asguard recommends. If a reading the person shares falls outside the range you have set, Asguard relays that to you as a notification so you can follow up. The notification is a prompt to check in. It is not a clinical assessment, and it does not mean that anything is wrong.
Asguard is not a medical device and does not give medical advice. Readings recorded in Asguard are for your own reference and should be reviewed with a qualified healthcare professional, who can advise what readings and ranges are right for the person you care for.
INR readings
INR is recorded differently. If the person you care for shares an INR reading in conversation, Asguard notes it down and shows it on their timeline so you can see it over time. Asguard does not set a range for INR and does not send a range alert for it. As with all readings, INR results are for your reference and should be reviewed with the clinic or healthcare professional managing their anticoagulation.
The Setup Flow
Setting up Asguard takes around 10–15 minutes.
- Create your account and complete the setup wizard at asguard.app
- Enter your loved one's details — name, medications, key people and dates
- Link Telegram — your loved one sends a short code to the Asguard bot in Telegram. This connects their Telegram account to their Asguard profile
- First morning message — the companion will send a warm greeting the following morning (usually between 8:00 and 9:30 am)
If your loved one does not use Telegram, you will need to help them install it and set up an account first. It is free and works on any smartphone.
A Typical Day
Morning (around 8–9 am): The companion sends a warm good morning message. It mentions any medications due that morning, notes any significant dates (a birthday, an anniversary), and might share a weather update or a piece of news to spark conversation.
Throughout the day: Your loved one can message the companion any time — to chat, ask about the weather, get help with a recipe, or just to say hello. The companion listens, asks questions, and remembers what it learns over time.
Medication reminders: At each scheduled time, the companion sends a friendly reminder. Your loved one can reply to confirm they have taken it, or just chat — the companion will note the response.
Evening: The companion may ask a gentle wellbeing question — how the day went, how they are feeling. The answer is summarised on your dashboard.
Medication Reminders
Reminders are sent at the times you set up in the wizard.
- Your loved one receives a friendly Telegram message at each reminder time
- If they reply to confirm, the medication is marked as taken on your dashboard
- If there is no response after 60 minutes, you receive an alert (this window is adjustable)
- You can edit medications, times, and names at any time from the Medications section of your dashboard
Tip: Make sure your loved one's phone is not in silent mode during reminder times, and that Telegram notifications are switched on.
Alerts You Will Receive

Family notify is off by default. Turn it on under Subject settings → Family notify. Even then, the companion only messages circle admins when your loved one clearly asks — it will not send private conversation content.
Alerts are sent to your registered Telegram account (if linked) and by email.
The Dashboard
Your dashboard at asguard.app lets you see and configure everything:
- Subject overview — recent activity, mood, last contact, pending items
- Medications — add, edit, or pause reminders; view confirmation history
- Companion settings — adjust the companion's personality, name, and conversation style
- People & relationships — add family members, friends, or pets so the companion knows who they are
- Key dates — birthdays, anniversaries, and other significant dates the companion will weave in naturally
- Memory — a read-only view of what the companion has learned about your loved one
Companion Memory
The companion builds a picture of your loved one over time — their family, their past, their preferences, and how they are feeling. This is what makes conversations feel warm and personal rather than generic.
You can review what the companion knows in the Memory section of the subject dashboard.
The companion does not share conversation content with caregivers, except in a crisis where safety is at risk. You see wellbeing signals, alerts, and learned facts, but not a transcript of private conversations. If a message suggests your loved one may be at risk, the alert we send you quotes the short passage that prompted it, so you can judge what to do.
What To Do If Something Goes Wrong
The bot has stopped responding. Try sending a message to the Asguard bot in Telegram. If there is no reply, check the bot is not blocked, then contact us at hello@asguard.app.
A medication name or time is wrong. Go to your dashboard → Medications and edit it. Changes take effect immediately.
Your loved one wants a break. They can type /stop to pause the companion, or just tell it they want some quiet — it will respect that. You can re-enable it from the dashboard at any time.
Your loved one is going away. They can type /away and the companion will pause check-ins and reminders until they return.

Known Limitations
Please read the Known Limitations page before you start. The most important ones:
- Telegram does not provide read receipts — we cannot confirm messages were seen
- The companion occasionally makes small errors — it is AI, not a human
- One Telegram account supports one person. If two people share a phone, only one can be linked at a time
- Asguard is not yet available to users in the United States
